Senior Cloud Architect | AWS & DevOps

Designing and Delivering Cloud Platforms That Support Real Business Growth

I am a senior Cloud Architect and DevOps specialist with more than 20 years of professional IT experience, including over a decade designing, building, and operating cloud-native platforms. I help organisations move from legacy infrastructure to modern, secure, and automated cloud environments that scale reliably and remain cost-effective.

My background spans software development, system architecture, and cloud engineering. I have worked with startups, public sector organisations, and multinational enterprises across aviation, finance, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and technology. I am particularly effective at bridging the gap between business objectives and technical execution. I translate complex requirements into pragmatic cloud architectures, guide teams through delivery, and ensure platforms are resilient, secure, and aligned with long-term strategy.

Professional Highlights:

  • 20+ years in commercial IT delivery
  • AWS Solutions Architect with extensive real-world implementation experience
  • Proven track record in large-scale cloud migrations and greenfield builds

AWS-Centric Multi-Cloud Delivery Platform for a Rapidly Scaling SaaS Business

Business Context

A fast-growing SaaS company required an AWS production platform that could scale rapidly without compromising security, delivery speed, or operational control. While development teams operated primarily within a Microsoft ecosystem, the business selected AWS as its strategic production cloud. The challenge was to align developer productivity, operational excellence, and leadership-level confidence during aggressive growth phases.

Architecture, Leadership & Delivery

  • Served as AWS DevOps Team Manager, leading and mentoring a team of DevOps engineers responsible for the AWS production platform
  • Defined and owned the AWS target architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and operational resilience as the business grew
  • Established Azure DevOps as the central CI/CD control plane, enabling consistent, automated delivery into AWS
  • Directed the implementation of CloudFormation-based infrastructure as code to provision and manage all AWS environments
  • Oversaw the design of secure networking across clouds, including site-to-site VPN connectivity between Azure-managed services and AWS production workloads and Client VPN access allowing employees to securely access AWS-hosted applications
  • Ensured application delivery in C# / .NET aligned with AWS operational constraints and best practices
  • Acted as the escalation point for architectural, security, and operational decisions during periods of rapid change

Business Outcomes

Enabled the AWS platform to scale in line with aggressive product and customer growth. Improved deployment reliability and reduced operational risk through fully automated AWS infrastructure provisioning. Allowed engineering teams to move fast without compromising AWS security or governance standards. Gave executive leadership confidence that the AWS platform could support long-term growth. The platform became a core enabler of the company's growth to a €500M valuation.

CI/CD and MLOps Platform for Healthcare Analytics

Challenge

Enable data science and MLOps teams to reliably deploy, validate, and operate machine learning models using data from multiple regulated healthcare data sources. The organisation required repeatable CI/CD pipelines, measurable model accuracy validation, and strong architectural oversight.

Solution

  • Designed an end-to-end MLOps architecture supporting model training, validation, and deployment
  • Defined CI/CD pipelines for ML workflows, including automated testing and accuracy checks
  • Implemented the solution using GitLab CI/CD and AWS-native services
  • Ensured the architecture met enterprise expectations for security, performance, and operational resilience
  • Presented and defended the solution at an architecture review board, addressing challenges around scalability, data handling, and risk

Outcome

Delivered a production-ready MLOps platform design that enabled faster, more reliable model deployment while improving confidence in prediction accuracy. The solution established a reusable foundation for future analytics and ML initiatives across the organisation.

Secure Real-Time Aircraft De-Icing Coordination Platform

Business Context

Airline operations during winter conditions depend on precise coordination between air traffic control, de-icing service providers, and flight crews. Delays or miscommunication directly impact safety, operational efficiency, and passenger experience. The organisation required a secure, centrally managed system that could support multiple internal teams and external contractors operating under strict access controls.

Architecture & Delivery

  • Designed a centralised, security-first coordination platform integrating air traffic control, de-icing contractors, and flight operations
  • Implemented real-time visibility into aircraft requiring de-icing, timing of icing conditions and operational priorities, and de-icing order, progress, and completion status
  • Built controlled workflows allowing external de-icing companies to receive tasks and report status updates in real time
  • Ensured pilots had live access to operational status, enabling accurate and timely passenger communications
  • Implemented role-based access control and access segregation for internal airline staff and external contractors and service providers
  • Delivered secure data persistence and operational reporting using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Developed and integrated the solution using PowerShell, SharePoint, and external system interfaces
  • Embedded security controls throughout the platform, ensuring data protection, auditability, and controlled information sharing

Business Outcomes

Improved operational coordination during adverse weather events. Reduced uncertainty and delays caused by fragmented manual processes. Increased transparency across internal teams, contractors, and flight crews. Delivered a trusted, secure system suitable for safety-critical aviation operations.
